Athelstan has been watching Ragnar all night, waiting for a chance to get him alone before he leaves.
They need to talk.
Finally, he spots Ragnar heading into the woods towards the river, and - by a different route, so no one will think twice about it - follows.

"I'll be there", he says quietly.

"Thank you," Ragnar says, against Athelstan's lips.

"You never need to thank me." He leans up for a firmer kiss for a moment. "Not for anything."

He nods, squeezing Ragnar's hand once more.
"We'll meet again soon."

"Soon," he just says, and then slips away into the shadows of the bushes.
Somebody has to, or they'd still be here when the dawn comes and the tide turns.
